Martini was an opera singer first, eventually giving it up to his love of painting. The opera never left his heart, as evidenced in the theatrical style in all of his works. The clear favorite to paint was Carmen, with its bright colors and characters coming to life on his canvas. Stare at it long enough, and you can hear "Toreador."
